The Class type on Class tiles shows how the class was added to Classwize or its function (Monitoring).
Types of Classes:
You can see the Class type on the Class tiles on your My Classes dashboard.

Local classes
When a teacher or IT Support creates a class directly in Classwize or Linewize Filter, it’s called a Local class.
If your school’s IT Support allows, you can create and delete Local classes from your Classwize dashboard. In a Local class, you can manage students, teachers and create schedules.
CSV classes
Your school’s IT Support may add classes to Classwize using CSV Upload. CSV classes have the same features as Local classes.
Synced classes
A sync is an automatic nightly process that updates Classwize classes to match the latest membership from your school’s Student Information System (SIS) or Google Classroom.
How it works:
- Students or teachers you add manually stay in the class.
- Anyone removed in Classwize will be restored if they still exist in the SIS or Google Classroom.
Note
To make permanent changes to class membership (students or teachers) in your Synced classes, update the class in your school’s SIS or Google Classroom. If you don’t have access, contact your school’s IT Support.
Monitor Mode Classes
You can use a Monitoring class to discreetly observe student activity. In a Monitoring Class, you can’t use Classwize features that interact with students.
These classes differ from other class types in some important ways:
- You can’t schedule Monitoring Classes.
- All Class Tools are turned off, except Modify Students.
- Monitoring Classrooms can have a maximum of 50 students.
- You can add any number of teachers to a Monitoring Class, but if too many teachers view a student's Live Screen simultaneously, it may degrade performance.
- You can start only one monitoring class at a time. You will get an alert if you start a new monitoring session while another is active.
