If your school syncs Classroom Manager with a Student Information System (SIS), Google Classroom, or a directory, a nightly sync updates your class rosters. This article explains what happens to the students and teachers you add or remove in Classroom Manager when the sync runs.
Which classes sync
Sync applies to:
Synced classes created from your school's SIS or authentication service, such as OneRoster, Google Classroom, or ClassLink.
Combined classes, because they are built from synced classes.
Directory groups that your IT Support has set up to act as classes, such as Google, Entra ID, or LDAP groups.
Sync doesn't apply to Local, CSV, or Monitor Only Mode classes. Classroom Manager keeps your changes to those classes.
How sync decides who is in a class
The nightly sync follows three rules:
The sync source wins for current members. Anyone the source still assigns to the class is in the class after the sync.
Your additions stay. Students and teachers you add in Classroom Manager stay in the class, even if the sync source no longer lists them.
Your removals are temporary. The sync adds anyone you remove back into the class if the sync source still lists them.
Your school might use more than one sync provider, such as a SIS and Google Classroom. In that case, the sync adds a user back when either provider lists them. Ask your IT Support to align membership across providers to prevent repeated roster changes.
What happens after a sync
Your changes behave the same way after an on-demand sync as they do after the nightly sync, so a removal can revert at any point in the day.

Every class needs at least one teacher, so you can't remove yourself if you're the only teacher of the class. Add a co-teacher first.
Combined classes
Student and teacher membership works the same way in a Combined class as in any other synced class. The sync keeps your additions, and it reverts your removals if any underlying class still lists the student.
Make a roster change permanent
Use Classroom Manager for short-term changes, such as adding a guest student or a temporary co-teacher for a lesson. These additions stay until you remove them.
Important
To remove someone permanently, make the change in the sync source. Ask your IT Support or Classroom Manager administrator to update the class membership in the SIS, Google Classroom, or directory, then run a sync. Removing the person in Classroom Manager alone doesn't last, because the nightly sync adds them back.
This applies to users who are suspended or deactivated in your school's systems. If the connector still sends the user and still lists their class membership, the sync adds them back to your roster. Your IT Support needs to unassign the user from the class in the sync source to stop this.
