Apply a list from your Rules Library to a class to add all its rules in one step. You can apply a list before class starts or during a lesson, and its rules start working immediately.
Before you begin
This article is for teachers who use Classroom Manager. Before you apply a list, make sure that:
You've created at least one list in your Rules Library. For steps, see Create and manage rule lists.
The class has room for the list's rules. Each class can have up to 200 rules, including class-specific rules and rules from active lists.
Apply a rule list to a class
To apply a rule list:
On the My Classes page, open the class.
In the class toolbar, select Rules. The button shows how many rules the class has.
Select the Rules Library tab.
In the My lists section, find the list. To check its rules first, select the arrow next to the list name.
Select Apply List.
The list's rules start working immediately, and the list appears in the Active Rules tab.
What happens after you apply a list
In the Active Rules tab, each active list shows the name of the teacher who owns it.
When a list is active in a class:
Changes to the list apply here too: If you add or remove a rule in the list, the change applies to every class where the list is active.
Class-specific rules come first: A rule you create directly in the class applies before a rule from a list. Use this to change access for one class without editing your list.
Conflicts don't change access: If a rule in the list conflicts with a rule already in the class, the existing rule keeps working. The list's other rules still apply. For help, see Resolve rule conflicts in a class.
When a list can't be applied
If applying a list would take the class over 200 rules, Classroom Manager doesn’t apply it and shows this message:
“Activating this list would exceed the 200-rule class limit. Remove rules before activating.”
To apply the list, remove some rules from the class or the list, then try again.
Remove a list from a class
Removing a list from a class only affects that class. The list stays in your Rules Library and in any other class where it's active.
To remove a list from a class:
In the class toolbar, select Rules.
In the Active Rules tab, find the list in the Rule lists section.
Next to the list, select Remove.
Note
In a class you share with other teachers, you can remove any active list, including one another teacher applied.
