You can check the Google Chrome or Microsoft Edge tabs that the student has open and close the tab if they are inappropriate. You can use Live View to follow the tab that the student is currently using, or look at their background or inactive tabs.
Important
If you see the message “Screenshots and Live view disabled for this site”, the website is restricted from screen view.
Before you begin
- You must have access to Live View, Close Tab and Open Site in Classwize.
- Your students must be using Chromebooks or Windows devices in Companion mode.
Active Tab
The Active Tab is the browser tab that the student currently has open. If the student is switching between different tabs, you can select Follow active tab to show the Active Tab the student is on.

Background or Inactive tab
Background or Inactive tabs are browser tabs that are open but not being looked at. Select any tab without the Active Tab indicator to see the background tab. The Active Tab indicator will remain on the tab the student is viewing and Follow active tab will automatically turn off.

Open a student’s tab in your browser
If you’re unsure about a website, you can discreetly open it to check whether it's appropriate.
- In Live View, hover over the title of a tab.
- Select the URL link to open the website in your browser.
