New platforms are continually emerging in the rapidly evolving landscape of generative AI tools. These tools are evolving, and because it may take time for Linewize to categorise them, they might not immediately appear as a category or signature for you to use in Classwize. It’s important to stay informed about AI and ensure new AI tools are appropriately managed, especially considering that students might use them for dishonest academic reasons. You should regularly check what students are doing online and teach them how to use AI tools responsibly and ethically.
Regularly monitoring student activity can help you detect the use of new or uncategorised AI tools. Once you have found any AI tools activity, it’s important to investigate further and take appropriate action to address the issue.
Review Student Activity Reports
Use the Student Journey Report or Screenshot History Report to view detailed logs of student internet history. Make it a routine to check these reports daily or weekly, depending on the frequency of your classes.
Look out for unusual patterns, such as excessive time spent on unfamiliar websites or a sudden increase in visits to sites known for AI tools. For example, if a student spends significant time on an uncategorised website that offers AI capabilities, investigate further to understand their activities.
Flag and Report Suspicious Website Activity
- Document any unfamiliar or uncategorised websites you notice in student activity reports.
- Perform an online search to understand the nature of these sites and check if they offer generative AI capabilities that students might be using for academic dishonesty.
- If you discover a new or uncategorised AI platform, report it to your school’s IT Support so they can take appropriate action.
