If you see a “[X] students managed by another class” message, those students are currently in a different class. This is part of an update to ensure that only one set of rules applies at a time.

What this means for your class
If you see this message, another teacher’s class started before yours and currently manages that student’s internet filtering and tools.
While a student is managed by another teacher:
- Your rules won't apply: Rules you have set will not affect that student.
- Classwize Tools are unavailable: You can’t use Focus, Pause Internet, Open Tab, or Chat for these students until they are under your management.
- Screen visibility: You can see the student's screen activity.
Claim students
We are currently in a transition period in which management is automatically assigned to the class that started first.
Tip
If a student is stuck in another class, the other teacher must select End Class to release the student so you can manage them.
Coming soon: Claim Student button
We are upgrading Classwize to provide you with more control. Within the next few days, we will turn on the Claim Student feature.
Once live, a Claim Student button will appear on these student tiles along with a message showing who is currently managing them. Selecting Claim Student allows you to:
- Instantly take over management of the student.
- Override any previous class Rules.
- Apply your specific Focus and Rules immediately.
