Troubleshoot a Locked Focus

If Lock to page isn’t working as expected, use this article to identify common causes and resolve them.

Student browser is stuck in a login loop

If the website requires a login, but the login webpage URL doesn’t match the webpage URL you lock to, it causes a constant redirect or reload loop. Ask the students to log in to the website before using Focus with Lock to page after they log in.

Can’t apply Lock to page to a URL

Lock to page only works with full path URLs such as http://wikipedia.org/wiki/Wright_brothers.. Signatures and Domain-only URLs like https://www.wikipedia.org can’t be locked.

  Tip

If your students need access to an entire website, use Focus without Lock to page instead.

Lock to page constantly reloads a shortened URL

Don’t use a shortened URL for Lock to page as it will redirect to the full URL. Instead, open the URL and then copy the full URL after the redirect.

  Example

If you use a shortened URL likehttps://forms.gle/abc123XYZ, it redirects to the full URL such as: https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSfeY2ZlUv8fQTxHf7G8FJv4v8V0vHq9dJzR1AeVUgKoKxyzA/viewfor.

Lock to page isn’t working for some students

If only some students are locked, but others can still browse, ask your school’s IT Support to:

  1. Check the student's device type as Lock to page only works on Chromebooks with the Linewize Connect extension and Windows devices in Companion Mode.
  2. Ensure the Linewize Connect for Chrome browser extension is installed and active.
  3. Confirm the student is in the correct Classwize class.

Students are locked out during a scheduled class, and the teacher is away

If no one is available to end the Focus, find the class name on the student’s device:

  1. Open the Linewize Connect for Chrome browser extension on a student’s device (it’s pinned in the browser toolbar).
  2. Note the class name shown in the extension.
  3. Contact your school’s IT Support and give them the class name.

Your school IT Support will need to:

  1. Sign in to Linewize Filter.
  2. Search for the class name from Configuration > Classwize > Classrooms.
  3. Identify the Teacher for the class.
  4. Sign in as Teacher and end the class, delete the Focus or schedule.
