Types of content you can block or allow

This article is for Teachers.

If your school allows, you can use Classwize to:

You can apply these controls to a particular student, multiple students or your whole class.

School Manager and Classwize interaction

Your school or district may have a School Manager to maintain a central set of filtering policies, while you can use Classwize to customise access to certain content when required. School Manager and Classwize work in tandem to control access to the internet. School Manager’s filtering policies always apply to your students unless you create rules for your classes or students in Classwize.

If your school or district does not want you to change a particular filtering policy, they will create a Locked policy. Contact your school's IT Support if you see a Locked rule error message.

Themes, Categories and Signatures

Linewize sorts Web content and applications into Themes, Categories and Signatures to allow customers to create an educational environment that suits their needs.

Themes

Themes include Categories and Signatures used for grouping content and applications. If you make a rule that includes a Theme, it will also apply to all the Categories and Signatures in that Theme.

Categories

Categories divide the main Theme into specific topics and give you finer control over blocking or allowing content. A rule applied to a Category affects only the content within that Category. Categories contain relevant Signatures for particular websites or applications.

Signatures

A Signature is a pattern used to identify specific websites, groups, or applications. Not all sites and applications have Signatures, they are usually created only for very popular or special cases. If you think a website or application should have a Signature, contact your school’s IT Support.
