Allow rule isn't working

This article is for Teachers.

If an Allow rule isn't working during a Classwize session, it may be due to:

  1. The rule allows a specific domain, subdomain, or page that requires data from blocked sites. Try to create the rule at the Signature level instead.
  2. Your school has a Locked Block policy in place using an Object Pool. Contact your school’s IT Support.

Create an allow rule at the Signature level

In this example, embedded videos are blocked from the PowerSchool website. This can happen if the following rules are in place within Classwize:

  • powerschool.com is Allowed
  • vimeo.com is Blocked

If you allow the Power Schools Learning Signature instead, the videos from Vimeo would appear because the signature includes everything Power Schools Learning needs to work, including embedded videos. To do this:

  1. Sign in to Classwize.
  2. Select the Class that contains the conflicting rules.
  3. Select Rules to open the Class Rules menu.
  4. Find the two conflicting rules and delete them. In this example, select the edit icon for powerschool and vimeo and select Delete Rule.
  5. Select + New Rule. This will open the Add new rule window.
  6. Search for the Power Schools Learning Signature, select Allowed and specify if this rule should apply to individual students or the Whole class.
  7. Select Add Rule.

Contact your school’s IT Support

Normally, if the rule you’re adding conflicts with a Locked Policy, you will receive a prompt that you can’t create the new rule. However, if your school has created an Object Pool and uses it as a block list for a Locked Block policy, Classwize won’t show this prompt. Contact your school’s IT Support to fix this issue.
